Awards from the Trusts
CCT and COT consider applications for funding from overseas students who have conditional offers of admission to Cambridge, but who would normally not be able to take up their places without financial assistance. Some scholarships, including the Cambridge International Scholarship and those offered by Cambridge Australia Scholarships, do not include financial need as a criterion.
The Trusts’ funding derives from several different sources – interest paid on investment, substantial donations made by the University, by Trinity College, and by Cambridge Assessment, and partnerships with many external organisations. Details of the Trusts' funding partners can be seen at Our partners.
Full-cost scholarships are normally attached to particular countries, levels of study and, in some cases, specific areas of study. These scholarships pay fees (adjusted each year to cover any increases set by the University, Departments or Colleges) and annual maintenance (reviewed annually by the Trusts). Full-cost scholarships may also include travel and other costs, and details are included in each scholar’s formal offer letter.
Part-scholarships normally consist of a fixed annual sum (£6,000 or £12,000), or a particular element of the fees. If you receive a part-scholarship, you are not eligible to apply to the Trusts for an increase in your funding.
All scholarships are tenable for the period set out in the offer letter, subject to satisfactory progress, to being in residence in Cambridge, and to any other conditions specified by the University, the College, the Trusts or their funding partners.
The Trusts will consider only in the most exceptional circumstances any revision of the terms of an award after it has been offered and accepted. Applications for an increase in an award because of changes in family circumstances will not normally be considered. In particular, the Trusts will not consider applications for increases in awards based on the failure of you or your sponsors to honour a financial guarantee given as a condition of admission.
The normal policy of the Trusts is not to extend support to its scholars for studies beyond the course for which they have received a scholarship. It is also policy that no student can normally hold an award from the Trusts for more than four years. All applications for permission to continue and for further help should be made in the first instance to the Trusts.
If you are already in residence in Cambridge, you are only eligible to apply for awards offered by the Trusts if you are applying for a further course of study after completion of your current course, or if a case can be made to the Trusts on the grounds of hardship.
Many of the awards offered by the Trusts are jointly-funded, with support coming from several different sources. You, and your College, will be informed of the sources of support for your award wherever relevant.
