Smuts Memorial Fund

The Smuts Memorial Fund was established after the death of Jan Christiaan Smuts, who was Prime Minister of South Africa from 1919 to 1924 and again from 1939 to 1948, and Chancellor of the University of Cambridge from 1948 to 1950. Its aim is to further the advancement of Commonwealth Studies in the University.

The Fund supports several posts and grants within the University, including the Smuts Cambridge Scholarships in association with the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Cambridge Overseas Trust.
