Maldives undergraduate scholarship scheme

The Ministry of Human Resources, Youth and Sports of the Republic of Maldives has signed an agreement with the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust to co-fund a scholarship each year for a student from the Maldives who wishes to study for a BA degree at the University of Cambridge.

The scholarship scheme, which will bring its first student to Cambridge in October 2012, will support exceptionally talented applicants from the Maldives who would not be able to study in Cambridge for an undergraduate degree without financial support. The scholarship, to be called the Maldives Cambridge Scholarship, will cover tuition and College fees, living expenses and return flights between the Maldives and the UK.

The formal agreement was signed at an event in the Old Schools in Cambridge by Her Excellency Dr Farahanaz Faizal, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the UK, herself a Cambridge alumna, and by Michael O’Sullivan, Director of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust.  Commenting on the new scheme, he said "Every year many school leavers in the Maldives achieve exceptional A level results and demonstrate huge potential for further study. We are delighted that we shall be helping some of the best to come to Cambridge."
