First Blyth CCT Scholarships awarded
Four outstanding Canadian high school students have been awarded Blyth Scholarships to fund their studies at the University of Cambridge.
Sam Blyth and Blyth Scholars, based in Toronto, have for several years supported Canadian students on undergraduate courses at Pembroke College, but this year they join forces with the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust to offer a larger number of scholarships for Canadians.
The four students who will arrive in October 2011 are:
| Sumner Braund | Toronto French School | Pembroke College | Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic |
| Yining Nie | Hon. Vincent Massey Secondary School (Windsor, Ontario) | Trinity College | Linguistics |
| Hunter Spink | Western Canada High School (Calgary) | Trinity College | Mathematics |
| Angela Wan | Richmond Hill High School | Fitzwilliam College | Natural Sciences (Biology) |
Dr Geoff Parks, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University, says: "These students have outstanding ability but would have not been able to come to Cambridge without the scholarships. They will now be able to benefit from the unique experience offered by our world-class University, and will be a valuable part of its diverse community."
Sam Blyth, who is himself an alumnus of Pembroke College, is pleased to support undergraduate scholars from Canada attending Cambridge: "I had the advantage of a Cambridge education. These awards are an expression of gratitude, as well as a gift to Canadian scholars who should excel at the University."
The Director of CCT, Michael O'Sullivan, comments: "Every high school in Canada was invited to nominate its brightest student for the scholarship, which provides full funding to study for an undergraduate degree at Cambridge. We look forward to welcoming these successful applicants next year."
