PhD Scholarships for Brazilian students
The Cambridge Overseas Trust has signed a new agreement with Brazil's Federal Agency for the Support & Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) to co-fund Brazilian PhD students at Cambridge.
The agreement was signed in Brasilia by the President of CAPES, Dr Jorge Almeida Guimarães, and COT's Director Michael O'Sullivan, and witnessed by the British Ambassador to Brazil, Alan Charlton.
The Trust is delighted to be establishing a firm link with a country of increasing importance for Cambridge, and looks forward to welcoming the first scholarship recipients in October 2011. The scholarships are full-cost, and can be awarded in any subject within the fields of science and technology.
Dr Guimarães welcomed the scheme, saying that this new programme would offer many opportunities for the development of CAPES' relationship with one of the most important academic institutions in the world. The agreement came in the same week that the University of Cambridge topped the 2010 QS World University Rankings.
A news story about the signing can also be found on the CAPES website.
