Michael O'Sullivan CMG became Director of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust on 1 October 2008. He spent much of his earlier career in China, most recently as Secretary General of the European Chamber of Commerce in China (2007-08).
From 1985 to 2007, Michael worked for the British Council, and from 2000 until 2007 was the British Council's China Director based in Beijing, responsible for expanding UK-China co-operation in education and culture.
Michael graduated in Modern Languages (German and French) from Brasenose College, Oxford in 1982. In 1985, at Wolfson College, Cambridge, he obtained an MPhil in Linguistics. In the Queen's New Year Honours List 2008, he was made a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in recognition of services to the British Council. He is now a Fellow of Wolfson College.
